So, it’s only natural that Champions League betting is as popular as it is!

Moreover, it’s for this reason that the UCL is considered to be one of the greatest tournaments of all. In fact, the clubs that participate in the UCL are amongst the strongest in the world, and even feature some of the greatest footballers on Earth.

If you’re looking to bet on the UCL, Betiton™ UK offers tonnes of betting markets. You can play multiple kinds of Champions League bets. Finally, we also offer the capability of wagering on Champions League matches live, which could potentially add to the thrill of watching the game!

However, if you’re new to online sports betting and gambling sites, and you’d like to start football betting, there are a few things that you need to know. We’ll be going over everything you need to know throughout this page to help you out.

What Are Champions League Betting Markets?

Champions League betting markets are the bets that you’ll be making on the UCL whenever you bet at Betiton™ UK. We offer numerous markets on our sportsbook, each with a different condition for your wager to be successful.

For example, there are markets on who’ll win the championship, who’ll score the most goals, whether both sides will score in a match, and so on. However, no matter which gambling sites you visit, you’ll find betting markets all the same.

Finally, if you take a look at our available markets, you’ll notice that next to each market there’s a couple of numbers. These are the odds of the market. We’ll be explaining what UEFA Champions League odds are in a section further down as they’re very important to know.

6 Popular Champions League Bets at Betiton™ UK

There are numerous Champions League bets available on our sportsbook, and you can wager on any number of them. Feel free to browse through the betting markets that we offer to get an idea of the range we provide. However, our most popular markets would definitely be the following:

  • 1X2: the most popular market by far is the 1X2. Also known as the “match result” market, this wager requires to either guess which team will be the winner of the match or if the match will end in a draw.
  • Total Goals (Under/Over): this is a very popular market where players have to guess if the total number of goals scored in a match will be more (over) or fewer (under) than a number specified by the bookmaker.
  • Total Goals (Exact Number of Goals): similar to the previous market but instead this one simply requires you to bet on what you think will be the total number of goals scored within a game.
  • Correct Score: this is another popular market where players have to accurately guess what the final score of a match will be.
  • Both Teams to Score: also known as “BBTS”, this market is on whether both sides would score a goal during the game.
  • First Goalscorer: as implied, this market allows players to wager on which player will score first.

Champions League Winner Odds

Other than the above markets, we offer our players the option of Champions League outright betting. This is when you bet before the tournament comes to an end, or even start, on who you think will be the winner of the championship. This kind of gambling is very popular because it gives you higher UEFA Champions League odds than regular bets do. If you’re interested in playing any Champions League winner bets we will be explaining the process in a later section.

What Are Champions League Odds?

Understanding what odds are telling you is important in any sports-wagering endeavour. In short, odds are the numbers that tell you how likely it is that an event will happen. They will also indicate how much you stand to win if the event occurs.

Odds can be represented in a number of different forms: fractions, decimals, or American. Finally, UCL odds are calculated by bookmakers according to the strength of the clubs that are participating, their players, their previous performances, etc.

Fractional Champions League Odds

This format is generally preferred by gambling sites in the UK and Ireland, so you can be sure to find it on our sportsbook. When using this format, you’ll see fractions being used to represent the Champions League odds. These generally look like so: 14/5, 7/5, 6/5, 10/3, etc.

Decimal Champions League Odds

This format is popular in several gambling sites around the world, especially in Europe, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. When using this format, you’ll see decimal numbers being used to represent the odds Champions League, such as the following: 3.45, 2.85, 4.35, etc.

American Champions League Odds

The final format that we’ll be looking at is the American format, so called because its popularity is largely based in the US. When using this format, you’ll notice that the UEFA Champions League betting odds are represented as 3-digit numbers with either pluses (+) or minuses (−) in front of them, like so: +300, +450, -320, -500, etc.

What Is the Format of the UCL?

The Champions League is played annually by top-division European football clubs. The idea behind the event is to find out which European clubs are the best, as the winners of this championship are generally hailed as the greatest club in Europe.

When it comes to playing this competition, there are 32 clubs which qualify through a rather complex qualification process. If you wish to know more about the qualifying stages, we’ll be going over the entire process in the next section.

How Do Teams Qualify for Champions League?

Qualification in the Champions League is heavily dependent on what is known as the “UEFA coefficient“. The UEFA coefficient is a system of statistics which UEFA uses to rank the teams, clubs, and associations that it administers.

These coefficients are generally calculated in 3 sets:

  1. National Team Coefficient: for ranking national teams
  2. Association Coefficient: for ranking football associations and governing bodies
  3. Club Coefficient: for ranking clubs

UEFA uses these coefficients to decide who qualifies for its various tournaments, including the UCL. Thus, for clubs to qualify in the UCL, both them and their association need to be ranked sufficiently high in the UEFA coefficients.

The associations that are ranked highest receive a number of spots through which their best clubs can qualify. However, for these clubs to enter the UCL, they will need to perform well in their respective domestic leagues.

For example, if an association has been allocated 2 spots by UEFA, then the 2 top clubs from its domestic league can qualify for the UCL. However, there are only 26 automatic qualifiers in the championship, which tend to be the best European clubs.

Moreover, the winners of the previous UCL and the previous Europa League also automatically qualify. The last 6 spots are decided through a series of qualifying playoffs that occur prior to the competition proper. This is done so as to give “lower” clubs a chance to participate in the UCL.

What Happens After the Qualifying Champions League Games?

Once these 32 clubs are finalised, they are distributed into 8 groups of 4 teams each. These are selected through a random draw. However, there cannot be 2 clubs from the same nation in the same group as the rules forbid this.

After the clubs are distributed, there is a round-robin group stage where each team plays each other team in their group in different countries across the continent. Games throughout the competition take place both home and away.

This means that every club involved will be hosting the other clubs at some point. Moreover, it also guarantees that each team will play at least 6 group stage games. The best 16 clubs from these 32 then advance to the next stage, which is the knockout stage.

Looking at the Champions League Knockout Stages: How Do They Proceed?

Here, clubs are also randomly selected. However, in the group of 16 stage, they cannot play against clubs from their nation and against clubs from their group. Moreover, rather than single-game knockout matches, these Champions League games are played over 2 legs.

In these 2-leg matches, there’s a home and an away match, and the clubs that score most goals over these legs advance to the quarter-finals. Clubs are also randomly distributed in the quater-finals and semi-finals but without the prior restrictions.

This means that a team can face off against a team from their nation or group. In both the quarter-finals and the semi-finals, the clubs have to play 2-leg playoffs just like they did in the group of 16; the best clubs then advance to the final.

Unlike the previous knockout stages, this is simply a single 90-minute game. Rather than at a club stadium, the final is played at a preselected neutral stadium. The winner is then crowned the winner of the UCL.

What Are Champions League Predictions & Betting Tips?

Champions League tips are pieces of wagering advice provided by “tipsters.” Tipsters are sport experts who spend hours upon hours analysing team compositions, player performances, and other similar statistics that give them an idea of how strong a team is.

After their various analyses, tipsters will then post their predictions of which team would win in a match. Depending on the tipster, these predictions are posted on their sites either for free or at a price, which is generally in the form of a subscription.

Essentially, these predictions are the tips they offer. Remember, however, that no matter how good a prediction seems to be, there’s no real way of accurately predicting the result of a match. So, when you decide to look up tips, take every prediction with a grain of salt.

Where Can I Find UEFA Champions League Predictions?

Googling for tips will give you a nearly innumerable number of tipster sites that will tell you who to wager on in the UCL. Our tip is to take these tipster sites and their predictions with a grain of salt and to do your own research as well.

Moreover, the best tips we can give you is to never bet more than you can afford to lose, to keep your gaming responsible, and to remember that wagering is meant to be an enjoyable experience. So, whether you’re wagering live or not, just be sure not go overboard.
