Last Updated: 26-06-2023 10:26

If betting on football happens to be one of your passions, then you’ll surely know that one of the biggest online football betting events is the English Premier League. This is the top division of English football, where all the best clubs in the country play.

Other than being the most prestigious league in England, it’s also one of the most popular domestic leagues and tournaments in the world. Thanks to this popularity, we’re able to offer our UK bettors with a rather wide range of markets on the Premier League.

However, if you happen to be one of those unlucky few that don’t know about the Premier League, then we’re here to help you out. We’ll be going over its format, when it will be held, which clubs generally participate, and so on.

Finally, if you also happen to be new to online sports betting, then you’re going to know about certain concepts before placing your first bet on this fantastic championship. We’ll be explaining everything that you need to know as we go along.

What Are Premier League Betting Markets?

Premier League betting markets are essentially bets that you can make on anything that can happen during a match in the league. For example, you can wager on which player or team will be the most to score, or which team will score first. These are a few of the most popular markets that are available at Betiton™:

  • 1X2 Full Time: for this market, you’ll need to bet on the team that you think will win the match. As for the abbreviation 1X2, 1 stands for home club, X stands for draw, and 2 stands for away club.
  • 1X2 1st Half: this is similar to the above market, except you’ll be wagering on the first half rather than the entire game.
  • Total Goals: in this market, you’ll be betting on the total number of goals that you think will be scored over the course of a match.
  • Total Goals 1st Half: this market is much like the previous one we described, with the exception that you’ll need to play a wager on the total goals scored in the first half.
  • Both Teams to Score: this is a market on the possibility of both teams scoring over the course of a game.
  • First to Score: finally, to be able to win this market, you’ll need to wager on the team you think will be the first to score in a match.

How Does the Premier League Work?

The Premier League occurs every year running from August through to May of the following year. However, this year’s edition was delayed due to the pandemic. Thus, the league started on 12 September 2020, and is set to finish on 23 May 2021.

The league involves the topmost 20 clubs in the UK playing against each other to decide who emerges victorious. The actual setup of the tournament is a round-robin format, where each club will play all the others twice.

Thus, the matches will be played once at the home stadium of a particular club, and another time away, or at the home stadium of the opposing club. Depending on the position they finish in, they will receive a number of points (or none at all).

Winners receive 3 points, losers receive none, whilst teams that draw receive a point each. Naturally, the club with the most points will finish first and pick up the title. However, the points are important for another reason.

The Premier League also has a promotion and relegation system, where the 3 clubs that finish last are relegated to the EFL Championship, the second division of English football. These are then replaced by the top 3 clubs of the Championship.

Premier League: Which Clubs Can You Bet On?

You can play a bet on any of the clubs that participate in the Premier League, each with their different, associated odds. Where Is the Premier League Hosted?

Unlike other events, the Premier League does not have one sole venue hosting the event. Instead, the league is simply held within the United Kingdom as a whole. This way, all of the clubs that are part of the league will host a number of games at home.

Each club is given the chance to play at home, as there is a significant home advantage. By offering the round-robin format, it balances all of this out making the event last longer and also making it much more exhilarating.

Know Your Odds: Premier League Betting Odds

Odds are the most important numbers when it comes to betting, as they tell you the likelihood of the occurrence of an event. In addition to that, they show you how much you stand to gain if your bet on that event actually wins.

Odds can be represented in either of 3 ways: fractional, decimal, and American. The only differences between these is how they represent the odds and where in the world they happen to be used the most; otherwise, they’re pretty much interchangeable.

Fractional

Bookmakers in the UK and Ireland generally use fractional odds, which are represented through fractions like 1/4 and 9/4. From the examples, 1/4 is an example of low odds, whilst 9/4 is an example of high odds.

Decimal

On the other hand, decimal odds are used by bookmakers in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. This format uses decimal numbers to represent the odds, such as 1.5 and 4.25. These odds are considered fairly intuitive to understand.

What Are Premier League Tips and Tipsters?

Premier League tips are suggestions on who to bet on in the league. These are given out by tipsters, sport-experts that spend a lot of time analysing previous performances, and other such factors to help them make predictions of who’ll win in a match.

After coming to their conclusions, tipsters will post their tips and predictions online. You may find that these tips are available either for free or at a price. Whilst there are plenty of tipsters out, it’s wise to also do your own research before placing a bet.
