Why Bet on the Premier League?
With soccer being the most popular sport in the world, it comes as no surprise to find that certain tournaments are also the most watched sporting events. These include the FIFA World Cup betting, the UEFA Champions League, and the Premier League.
In fact, the Premier League is one of the most watched leagues anywhere in the world. Many of the Premier League clubs have massive loyal followings around the world. At home, any Premier League game is usually sold out.
In fact, all of the stadiums are filled to capacity no matter what the game, which demonstrates the huge fan loyalty. For years, despite the large number of clubs playing in the event, it was dominated by four clubs—Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea.
Little has changed in recent years, except for the addition of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspurs as other major contenders for the title. So, keep these clubs in mind when making your picks to place a wager.
Speaking of wagers, bettors can find plenty of them available to play on at our sportsbook. We offer diverse markets, from 1X2 markets to total goals markets. Don’t worry, however, we’ll be explaining what these are further down.

Betiton Explains: Markets, Odds, & Tips
Whilst we have explained how to place sports bets, there’s more to sports betting than simply placing wagers haphazardly. Wagering without any sort of order is a surefire way of throwing your money away, which isn’t fun at all.
Instead, you should strive to place smart wagers that stand a better chance of actually winning. To do this, you’ll need to understand what odds are and how to use information to your advantage, including so-called “tips.”
We’ll be giving a rundown of these concepts in the following sections for our players’ benefits. However, the first you’ll need to understand is what “markets” are. After all, you cannot learn how to run without first learning how to walk!
Betiton’s Crash Course to Betting Markets
When accessing our sportsbook, you’ll notice a pretty significant number of wagers that are available for players to make. Those are known as “betting markets” or “markets.” In short, markets are nothing more than the available wagers on a sportsbook.
Moreover, markets are offered by bookmakers on certain “conditions” that need to be fulfilled for the bets to be successful. These conditions can be anything that happens during a game of sports, generally depending on the sport.
For example, in soccer, players can attempt to guess who is going to win the UEFA Champions League betting. Other sports have different betting markets; for example, in darts, players can bet on which thrower will get the most 180s.
Alongside the markets, bookmakers also state the odds that are associated with a particular market. Odds are calculated by bookmakers according to previous performances of teams, and other such statistics.
Finally, the most common market in soccer, however, is the 1X2 market. This simply means that you’ll be betting on either a home win (1), a draw (X), or an away win (2). Let us now have a look at some other examples of markets that we offer.
Examples of Betiton’s Betting Markets
- Both Teams to Score: readers can easily assume what this betting market does: it wins if both teams score in the game.
- 1X2 1st Half: this bet requires players to correctly guess how the teams are doing by the first half: if either of the teams is winning or if they’re tied.
- 1X2 Full Time: this is the market we explained before, where players need to bet on which of the two teams is going to win, or if they’ll draw instead.
- Total Goals 1st Half: if players can correctly guess how many goals will be scored by half-time, then this bet is a winner.
- Total Goals: players need to correctly guess the total number of goals that’ll be scored in a match.
- First to Score: for this bet to win, players have to correctly guess which team will be the first to score. If no goals are scored or if the other team scores, however, this bet will lose.
Betting Odds for the Premier League
Odds are the most important part when it comes to betting, as these are the numbers that tell you how likely it is that an outcome happens. They also indicate how much you’ll win if that specific scenario comes to pass.
They can be found in different formats, which are: decimal, fractional, and American (or moneyline). Check out the options yourself and see which type you prefer. In general, Canadian bookmakers use the decimal format.
All 3 of the formats show you the same 2 things in different ways, so choosing a format is merely a matter of preference. A good principle to keep in mind, however, is that the higher the odds are, the higher the reward but also the higher risk.
On the other hand, the lower the odds are, the lower the reward and the risk will be. You’ll need to consider both of these factors when making your bets: do you want to take a risky but profitable bet? Or should you play it safe?
Understanding Odds: What the Different Formats Show
The most common odds format that Canadian players are going to encounter is be the decimal format. Thus, it would be ideal to explain it first: decimal odds work with a series of numbers and decimal numbers.
The lowest possible decimal odds is 1, meaning a 100% chance of success. Anything higher than a 1 means odds that are less and less likely. The higher the number, the less likely the event will be, but the higher the payout.
To calculate the payout for decimal odds, you’ll need to multiply the odds by your bet and then subtract your bet from the result. Don’t worry, it’s not as complicated as it might seem. Let us look at an example together.
Let us say that you are betting $10 on odds of 3.5. The calculation works as follows:
- 3.5 x 10 = 35
- 35 – 10 = 25
Therefore the payout of the bet is $25, but the total return is $35. Of course, knowing only how decimal odds work is enough to enjoy sports betting. However, let us look at the other formats in case you prefer them over decimal odds.
Fractional odds use a system of fractions to indicate their probabilities and payouts. There is an easy trick that bettors can use to determine both of these things by simply looking at the numbers of the fractions.
If the number on the right is larger, then the odds are low. However, if the number on the left is bigger, then the odds are high. To calculate the payout of the bet, you can take the number on the right to mean the bet, and the left to mean the return.
So, a bet with odds of 5/2 means that for every $2 you wager, you’ll receive $5 on top of it. On the other hand, odds of 2/5 means that for every $5 you wager, you’ll gain $2 alongside your stake if your bet is a winner.
Finally, American odds work by using a series of positive and negative numbers, generally numbers in the hundreds. The numbers in the positive range generally show high odds, whilst those in the negative range generally show low odds.
What these numbers also tend to show is either of two things:
- how much money you’ll earn for $100 bet
- how much money you need to wager to get a return of $100
The first one applies to postive numbers. To take an example: odds of 250 show you that for a bet of $100, you’ll receive $250 on top of it. The second works for negative numbers. Odds of -250 indicate that you need to wager $250 for a payout of $100.
Using Tips to Your Advantage
Simply understanding the odds won’t get you far and that’s because odds are merely predictions made by bookmakers. Whilst odds are generally accurate, they are not entirely reliable as matches can sometimes go in a totally different direction!
This is why it’s important to also do your own research into the matter of sports betting. A very good starting point for beginner bettors would definitely be using “tips.” Tips are pieces of advice given by tipsters, either for free or at a cost.
Tips advise bettors on which teams to bet on, which odds to take, where to play their bets, and so on. Tipsters are very knowledgeable when it comes sports, so their advice usually has a very high degree of accuracy.
Moreover, tipsters usually publish their reasoning alongside their tips and picks, which is a great help to bettors that are just starting out. This is because players can learn to know what to look out for, what are important considerations when predicting, etc.
However, despite all of this, players shouldn’t rely solely on tips. Whilst tips are useful for beginner bettors, they only offer another person’s perspective of the match, which wouldn’t necessarily match yours, nor would it necessarily be entirely accurate.
This is exactly why doing your own research is extremely important when it comes to making bets. After all, why shouldn’t you make your own decisions when placing your bets? There is hardly a more satisfying experience than coming to your own conclusions.
How to Find Tips
Almost unsurprisingly, you can find more tips that you could ever read by doing a simple Google search—or whichever search engine you prefer using. However, as we already said, tips shouldn’t substitute for the genuine research that you should do.
Apart from that, the best tips we can give you is to stick to a budget of money that you can afford to lose; to keep yourself healthy; and to make time for the important things in your life, like family and friends.
A Short History of the Premier League
The English Premier League, or EPL, is actually not an old event. Quite the contrary, in fact, as it was only established in 1992. However, prior to the EPL’s formation, a first division soccer league had been in place since the late 1800s.
The league, known as the English Football League (EFL), was established in 1888, making it the oldest league in the world. From its inception, it was the highest level of football in England—until the formation of the EPL.
The reason the EPL broke away from the ELF was because of a lucrative TV deal. Afterwards, the EPL displaced the EFL as the top-flight of English football, making it the most important of all the English leagues.
It’s also the league from which players are selected to play for the national team in international tournaments. This includes events such as the UEFA EURO betting—that’s taking place in 2021—and the FIFA World Cup—taking place in 2022.
The league is comprised of 20 clubs, which are the top clubs in England during their time in the EPL. However, these clubs can, and do, change on a yearly basis as the league is based on a relegation and promotion system.
If a club doesn’t get enough points during a season in the EPL, they drop down a division, making way for the top clubs in the division below to move on up. This is the purpose of having multiple divisions in the ranking system of English football.
Hosting the Premier League: Who Does It & Where?
The Premier League does not work in the same way as other tournaments in that there is no one specific host, city, or stadium. Instead, every season the tournament is hosted within the UK as a whole.
The main part of this League is a round robin tournament where each of the clubs plays all the other clubs. They’ll actually do so twice, so that they play each of the other clubs in an away game as well as a home game.
In this manner, every club hosts matches, with the league utilizing the cities and stadiums of each club. For instance, Liverpool will host a number of games in their Anfield Stadium throughout the tournament.
The reason for this is that there is a significant home advantage for teams playing in their own grounds. That’s why, to balance this out, each club plays away from home too. Keep this in mind when you’re doing your picks on our sportsbook.
Premier League: The Best Clubs Over the Years
If you’re going to be betting on the Premier League, you’re going to need to do your own research, as we keep harping on. Of course, we’re only telling you for your own good. Anyway, part of your research should be to see who the strongest clubs are.
There are many ways to do this, one of which is to research how many times these teams won the Premier League. To help you out with your research, we have provided a table with the 7 clubs that have won the Premier League:
Club | Wins | Runners-up |
Manchester United | 13 | 6 |
Chelsea | 5 | 4 |
Manchester City | 4 | 3 |
Arsenal | 3 | 6 |
Blackburn Rovers | 1 | 1 |
Leicester City | 1 | 0 |
Liverpool | 1 | 4 |
Previous Winners of the Premier League Since 2013
However, it is not enough to simply see how many times clubs how won the league. After all, a team might have won the league years ago but now are struggling to make a comeback. Moreover, just because a team hasn’t won yet doesn’t mean they’re not strong.
This is why it’s also important to look up how a team has been recently performing. There are other factors which you should also research, like a team’s financial strength and player cohesion, to help you make accurate assessments.
However, to help get you started in your research, we have provided a table with the previous winners, runners-up, and third-place teams over the last few years. You can find the table below:
Year | Winners | Runners-up | Third Place |
2019-2020 | Liverpool | Manchester City | Manchester United |
2018-2019 | Manchester City | Liverpool | Chelsea |
2017-2018 | Manchester City | Manchester United | Tottenham Hotspur |
2016-2017 | Chelsea | Tottenham Hotspur | Manchester City |
2015-2016 | Leicester City | Arsenal | Tottenham Hotspur |
2014-2015 | Chelsea | Manchester City | Arsenal |
2013-2014 | Manchester City | Liverpool | Chelsea |
