Super Rugby Betting at Betiton™ NZ
Last Updated: 26-06-2023 16:46
Super Rugby is a men’s rugby championship that happens exclusively in the Southern Hemisphere. This makes Super Rugby betting extremely popular in New Zealand. It’s one of the most important rugby events that happens below the equator and it’s generally considered as the toughest regional competition in the sport.
Currently, this prestigious competition has undergone a massive overhaul, with the number of contestants having been severely diminished. In fact, only teams from New Zealand and Australia will play in the championship for the time being.
Despite the decrease in contenders and the removal of its previous international format, the tournament should still prove to be an exciting display of rugby. Moreover, we treat our players from NZ to a wealth of options at Betiton™ for Kiwi bettors when it comes to Super Rugby betting.
This type of rugby betting can be incredibly exciting as there are a number of different things that can be bet on. These include wagers such as the winning team in a match, predicting the tournament winner, or trying to guess the total number of points scored in a match.
However, if you’re new to sports betting, you don’t have to worry as we’ve created this page as a way of getting you acquainted with the necessary concepts of wagering on sport. So, be sure to read on to find out everything you need to know.

Super Rugby Winner Odds
Who Are the Favourites to Win the Super Rugby?
As we have previously seen in our table of winner odds, the Chiefs, Blues, and Crusaders are the top three favourites to win the tournament.
The Chiefs, based in Hamilton, New Zealand, have odds of 2.85, making them the favourites to win the tournament. They have a strong squad, including All Blacks such as Sam Cane, Brodie Retallick, and Damian McKenzie, who are sure to make a significant impact on the pitch. The Chiefs have won two Super Rugby titles in their history, the last one in 2013, and will be looking to add a third this year.
The Blues, based in Auckland, New Zealand, have odds of 3.45. They have a strong squad, including the likes of Beauden Barrett, Dalton Papalii, and Rieko Ioane, who are all capable of producing match-winning performances. The Blues have won three Super Rugby titles in their history, but the last one was back in 2003. However, with their current form and squad, they are certainly in with a chance of adding a fourth title to their collection.
The Crusaders, based in Christchurch, New Zealand, have odds of 3.50. They are the most successful team in Super Rugby history, having won 11 titles in total, including the most recent one in 2022. The Crusaders have a strong squad, including All Blacks such as Richie Mo’unga, Sevu Reece, and Codie Taylor. They have consistently been one of the top teams in the tournament, and are sure to be a formidable force once again this year.
Other teams that could potentially challenge for the title include the Hurricanes, who have odds of 7.55, and the Brumbies, who have odds of 12.00. The Hurricanes have a strong squad, including All Blacks such as Dane Coles and Ardie Savea, while the Brumbies are the most successful Australian team in Super Rugby history, having won two titles.
Other teams with longer odds include the Reds (42.00), Highlanders (43.00), Waratahs (100.00), Fijian Drua (100.00), Rebels (150.00), Western Force (375.00), and Moana Pasifika (950.00). While these teams may have longer odds, they still have the potential to cause upsets and should not be underestimated.

What Are Super Rugby Odds? Why Are They Important to Know?
Super Rugby odds are extremely important because these numbers represent how likely it is that the event will occur—but that’s not all they show. They can also show you how much you stand to gain if the event you wager on actually comes to pass.
How much you would receive as winnings goes the other way of how likely the event will happen. In other words, the higher the chance that an event will happen, the lower your returns will be—and vice versa. Thus, it’s important to weigh up these two factors.
Finally, it’s important for punters to know that odds comes in 3 different formats, which are: decimal, fractional, & American. There are two main differences between these formats: the first difference is where in the world they are most commonly used.
The second difference is how they indicate the odds themselves. Otherwise, these formats are mostly interchangeable. We already explained how these formats can be understood and we highly recommend that our members read our guide on how to understand the formats.
What Are Super Rugby Tips & How Can They Help You?
Super Rugby tips are pieces of betting advice on which team you should back in the fantastic tournament. These are generally given out by “tipsters”. Tipsters are sports experts that spend a lot of time analysing important factors in order to give their predictions.
These are usually predictions of who will triumph in a particular match or the entire tournament. There are multiple factors that tipsters generally analyse, including player form, previous performances of a team, where the match will take place, and so on.
These tips and predictions can prove useful when deciding on which team to back in the championship. However, despite their usefulness, we advise our Kiwi players against depending entirely on tips when wagering on Super Rugby or any other tournament.
Where to Find Tips on Super Rugby
Unsurprisingly, you may find as many tips as you need and even more, by simply looking them up on your favourite search engine. On the other hand, our best tips are to stay healthy and never stake more than you can afford to lose.
What Are Super Rugby Betting Markets?
The first thing that you need to know is what Super Rugby betting markets are. This is because these are what you’ll be using to wager on the illustrious league. In other words, these are the wagers that you’ll find on our sportsbook on the league.
Each one of these markets is offered alongside their odds. These are extremely important to know, and hence we’ll be explaining what they are further down this page. For now, however, we’ll be going through some examples of markets you can use to wager on this tournament!
What Can You Bet On at Betiton™ NZ? Our 5 Most Popular Super Rugby Markets
- 1X2: you’ll be wagering on whether the match will end in a draw (X), a victory for the home team (1), or a victory for the away team (2). This market is sometimes also called as “match odds“.
- First to Score: as you can pretty much guess what this market means, you’ll be wagering on whichever team you think will be the first to score in a match.
- Total Points: in this market, you’ll need to wager on how many points you think will be scored over the course of a game.
- Total Points Odd/Even: this is quite similar to the previous market. However, you’ll be wagering on whether the total number of points will be an odd or even number instead of having to guess the total number of points scored.
- Highest Scoring Half: finally, for this market, you’ll need to guess in which half of the game there will be the most points scored.

The New Format of Super Rugby: How Will It Work?
As we already said, the format of Super Rugby has seen some changes. Previously, the league was international, with teams from Japan, South Africa, and Argentina participating in it. However, Japan and Argentina weren’t able to play in the tournament any longer.
Moreover, South Africa decided to no longer participate in the league, leaving New Zealand and Australia to contest the tournament. The way it works now is that the tournament has been split into 3: 2 domestic leagues and a crossover tournament.
The domestic leagues are New Zealand’s Super Rugby Aotearoa and Australia’s Super Rugby AU. These leagues https://www.betiton.com/en-nz/sport/rugby/super-rugby/?NeoDL=Registration&PAR=1ga125cidpidaffid100020will follow a round-robin format, where each team will play each other team in home and away matches. NZ’s league, however, has an added final round.
Finally, the final tournament is the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman. This is a crossover tournament which will feature 5 sides from the New Zealand Aotearoa league face off against the 5 sides from the Australian league.
The tournament will happen sometime between May and June, that is, after both domestic leagues have been contested. The league will consist of 25 home and away matches, and a final that’s played between the best two teams of the round robin stages.
Who Will Be Hosting the New Tournament?
Similar to a number of other sporting tournaments of this kind, there is no specific host. Each of the clubs is part of a conference in one of the 2 countries. The clubs will then host the other clubs once each during the double round robin phase.
When this happens it means that each team will get to play at their own home stadium. Because of this, all clubs get an equal opportunity at that home advantage at least once in a round against each specific team.
This is one of those tips that you should really bear in mind when making wagers. This is because the home advantage can mean a team unexpectedly wins when they may have lost to the same team in an away game. So, make sure to check where each game is held.
Other Rugby Tournaments to Bet On:
