How to Play Live Blackjack
Live blackjack is very similar to all the other blackjack variants you usually find at an online casino. However, instead of playing against a software programme, as you would on one of the virtual games, live blackjack is played against a real dealer and other players. This is possible thanks to improvements in technology that allow us to create studios, film the action and then stream this live to your device. These games offer a little bit extra in the way of the casino experience, bringing you into a more immersive way of playing so that you don’t have to leave your home to get that true casino ambience. From the comfort of home, you can now go to a casino to play!
Playing blackjack at a live casino is simple. The rules are fundamentally the same as any other blackjack game. However, depending on the variant, there will be some slight rule differences, so make sure to check these out before sitting at a table. In general though, the rules are simple. As a player, you will be given two cards, you can look at these cards and decide whether you want an extra card (hit), keep the cards as they are (stick), or end the hand (fold). Your move at this point will determine whether you are going to win or lose down the line. You’ll place a bet on yourself to win and winning is reaching, but not going passed, the value of 21 in your hand.
- How to beat the dealer
- When do you lose to the dealer?
- How to play each hand
While there are usually other players at the table, blackjack is only about beating the dealer. In order to beat the dealer you will need to have a hand that has a higher value than that of the dealer. Ideally, you want your hand equal to 21. However, you can still beat the dealer and win your bet if your hand has a higher value than that of the dealer and is closer to the value of 21 without going higher than 21. Unlike live roulette, in blackjack, you can use more strategies to win, so it’s worth taking the time to look at the face up card of the dealer to determine your next move. For instance choose a table where the dealer has to stand on a soft 17.
Losing to the dealer in a round is much easier and happens faster than it does in poker. If you go bust (the value of the cards you hold is greater than 21) or surrender, then the dealer will automatically win that round. It is, therefore, important that you pay attention to both the cards in your hand and those the dealer is showing if you plan on winning. Make use of all the strategy tables that are available online as these can really make the difference between losing and winning a round. For example, to avoid losing to the dealer you can take on double down options, but only when the face-up card of the dealer is showing a 6. With blackjack, having a strategy of this kind is always important.
When it comes to playing blackjack games, each hand is played as a separate round – so don’t think about the hand that went before. As we mentioned, there are a number of strategies to implement so pick one of the handy strategy tables and memorise it. In general though, you should be paying attention to the dealer’s face-up card as well as your own hand when making any action decisions. If the dealer has a 4, 5 or 6 in their face-up card, it’s better for you to stand, especially if your hand is weak. You should also always split aces and eights. Even though splitting eights often sounds like a bad thing, it can be lucrative at the end of the round and give you a win.
Why Play Live Blackjack
- Games are easily accessible
- Live play helps hone your skills
- Games are interactive helping you pick up tips
Playing live blackjack has a whole heap of benefits. One of the main reasons to play live blackjack is the fact that it is highly accessible. You are able to get a game almost whenever you want as you can get live games via mobile and desktop. There are also usually free seats at these tables so you won’t be waiting around like you would in a land-based casino. Playing directly against real people can also help you hone your skills, although we advise against card counting. Finally, the fact that you can talk to the dealer and other players means this is very interactive. You can swap strategies, learn new blackjack skills and even just make friends with those you are playing with.
Different Types of Blackjack
There are a number of different types of blackjack available for our players at Betiton. Classic blackjack is the most popular and is played with anything from 1 to 8 decks. Both dealer and player are dealt their cards at the same time. In European Blackjack, the premise is the same but the dealer’s second card (face down), is not dealt until the player has made their betting decision. Progressive Blackjack adds a little excitement by having a prize that increases as players join the game and get playing. Atlantic City Blackjack is played with 8 decks and the dealer can take a look at his hole card (the face down one), stands on a soft 17 and players can split up to three different hands.
